Four People Shot at Howe Community Park – Unauthorized Event Ends in Shooting
On Saturday evening, an unauthorized gathering of several hundred people at Howe Park in the Arden-Arcade section of Sacramento turned violent when upwards of 20 gunshots were fired as deputies from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office were in the midst of clearing the crowd.
How It Unfolded
Around 6:30 in the evening, the Sacramento County Sheriff got reports about persons reportedly carrying concealed firearms at Howe Community Park in Sacramento. A follow-up call reported a possible altercation and individuals fleeing the scene.
An airship was dispatched and swept the area but could not find any physical confrontation.
However, multiple hundreds of people had come together at Howe Community Park for what officials called an unlawful gathering. Responding deputies surrounded the park, activated their vehicle emergency lights, and gave the crowd approximately 15 minutes announcing over loudspeakers for people to leave via loudspeaker announcements.
While law enforcement cleared the gathering, an estimated 20 to 25 rounds were fired — sending hundreds of people running in a panic.
Shooting Victims
Four people — one female and three males, all believed to be in their 20s — were Cottage Way shooting Sacramento rushed to local hospitals. Two victims had injuries classified as immediate, one suffered moderate injuries, and one had minor injuries. All four were listed as stable. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department assisted with on-scene medical triage in the field.
What Was Found at the Scene
Gunfire originated from the Cottage Way side side of the park adjacent to the Home Depot store at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. The Home Depot store was put under a brief lockdown. CSI units and detectives worked the scene overnight.
What We Know About Suspects
Over law enforcement radio traffic, it was established that a suspect car — a Kia automobile — was detained in nearby Solano County with four people in custody. Sacramento County Sheriff's Office units were sent to transport the suspects back and return them to Sacramento. Video confirmed the involvement of two shooters.
